University of Illinois Press has published Jonathan Rosenbaum’s new collection of essays and interviews from the period between 1972 and 2009. Cinematic Encounters: Interviews and Dialogues contains conversations with Orson Welles, Jacques Tati and Jim Jarmush among others. By arranging the chapters chronologically, Rosenbaum invites readers to pursue thematic threads as if the discussions were dialogues between separate interviews. ‘Interviews and Dialogues’ is the first part of a two-volume work called Cinematic Encounters. The second volume is subtitled ‘Portraits and Polemics’ and is scheduled to appear in May 2019.
