Mount Pelee dominates the town of Saint-Pierre. Fire and smoke rise from the crater, lava begins to flow down the slopes of the mountain, and the town is engulfed by smoke and flames. Éruption volcanique à Martinique is a news item, reconstructed in the studio by burning a Bengal fire, “a mixture of magnesium, zinc, iron filings, charcoal powder, potassium nitrate and sulphur flower”, on top of a model representing Mount Pelee.
