The sixth edition of SHHH, the festival that celebrates the power and poetry of silent film, hosted by Monokino, will take place in Ostend from 13 to 14 September. This 6th edition is dedicated to The Social Life of Film, an international gathering of nomadic film platforms from various corners of the world. Over the past decade, there has been a surge in small, autonomous, non-profit, nomadic screening platforms that regularly host film events without permanent venues. The Social Life of Film brings together 25 of these nomadic platforms from Belgium, France, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Lebanon, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Sweden. These include Anorak (Berlin), Cinema Fulgor (Odemira), Cinéma Parenthèse (Brussels), Terrassen (Copenhagen), Non-Aligned Film Archives (Paris/Rennes), and many others. The aim is to create a network of shared knowledge and experience and inspire a broader conversation about the need for a more inclusive film culture.

Monokino asked six of these organisations to create a programme based on the principles of Shhh: silent film and the sea. The films will be shown on the beach this time, and some screenings will be accompanied by musicians or storytellers.
