Artist in Focus: Annik Leroy at CINEMATEK

Until the end of November, CINEMATEK dedicates its Artist in Focus programme to Belgian filmmaker Annik Leroy. Spanning five decades, Leroy’s films – such as In der Dämmerstunde - Berlin (1980), Vers la mer (1999), Tremor – Es ist immer Krieg (2014), and her most recent film La force diagonale (2023, with Julie Morel) – explore memory, history, and the human condition. As one critic wrote about her work: “It is an invitation to look, to feel, and to explore oneself more deeply.”

Alongside screenings of her own films, Leroy has been given a carte blanche to present works that resonate with her own cinema, including Vitalina Varela (Pedro Costa, 2019), Bruxelles-Transit (Samy Szlingerbaum, 1980), and Winter Adé (Helke Misselwitz, 1988), among others.

Tonight, 27 October, CINEMATEK presents a special evening in collaboration with Brussels-based production and distribution platform elephy, featuring Silent Conversations (Eva Giolo, 2024) and Flowers blooming in our throats (Eva Giolo, 2020), Colouring in (Rebecca Jane Arthur, 2021), and Saying not Said (Christina Stuhlberger, 2021).
