Ciné Place-Making

On the 4th and 5th of March, Kaaitheater hosts Ciné Place-Making, a two-day study circle on place-making in film curated by artist and researcher Robin Vanbesien. Imaginaries and practices of place-making wil be explored through multiple screenings, panel talks, and lectures. The film program consists of Belgian premieres and previews of films in development that reveal film practice as a form of place-making, all of which contribute to “a relational geography of connected struggles, imaginaries, and resources”: Marta Popovida’s Landscapes of Resistance (2021), Ana Vaz’ Apiyemiyekî? (2019) and 13 Ways of Looking at a Blackbird (2020), Raphael Grisey & Bouba Touré’s Xaraasi Xanne – Crossing Voices (2022), Subversive Film’s Tokyo Reels (2022), and The Post Film Collective’s On Recreation (2022). Screenings will be accompanied by a Q&A with the filmmakers, in addition to lectures by Avery F. Gordon and Olivier Marboeuf who will delve deeper into the question: “How can film help shape a radical consciousness about place-making?.”
