Cut The Line – Erika Balsom

“The pattern is defined. Cut the line and chronology falls in a crumpled heap. I prefer a crumpled heap, history at my feet, not stretched above my head.” – Lis Rhodes

From October 25 to 28, Beursschouwburg is presenting a film program curated by Erika Balsom. Drawing inspiration from the exhibition No Master Territories (2022-2023), which she co-curated with Hila Peleg, Balsom has assembled a program of films that foster a dialogue about feminism, historiography, and non-linear temporalities of remembrance. The films will be screened continuously in a loop.

In addition to the program in Brussels, Erika Balsom has also curated a program for Monokino. This program starts from her own book An Oceanic Feeling: Cinema and the Sea, which explores the role of the sea in films of various genres and served as a significant source of inspiration for Monokino. This event will take place on the 27th at KAAP, Ostend.

Furthermore, on Saturday the 28th, Beursschouwburg will screen Die Reise nach Lyon (1981) by Claudia von Alemann. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Erika Balsom and Anouk De Clercq.
