Zomerfilmcollege 2025
From July 6 to 12, Cinea is organising a new edition of the Zomerfilmcollege, a yearly summer film school taking place in De Cinema in Antwerp that offers seven days of lectures and film screenings, centered around two film historical themes.
The first part, ‘The Many Worlds of Satyajit Ray’, spotlights Bengalese filmmaker Satyajit Ray and offers a chronological overview of his career. Guest speakers professor Rochona Majumdar and assisant professor Ritika Kaushik will highlight some important themes in the work of Ray, like the directors appraoch to history, his ties with local and international literature and his view on female leading roles.
‘Rites of Passage: A Personal History of Teen Movies’, the second part of the Zomerfilmcollege, compiles work of different directors to illustrate the relation of film and the modern idea of adolescence. The program offers a selection of ‘teen movies’ and will feature an appaerance of a not yet specified internationally renowned filmmaker. Guest speakers for this part are film critics Adrian Martin and Cristina Álvarez López.
