Sabzian and UGent’s university filmclub Film Plateau will show Victor Erice’s El sol del membrillo [The Dream of Light] on 26 March, in KASKcinema. The film will be introduced by film historian Steven Jacobs.
In El sol del membrillo, Victor Erice captures the artistic process of the renowned Spanish painter Antonio Lopez. Erice focuses on Lopez's yearly ritual of painting a quince tree in his garden, a subject he has revisited numerous times throughout his career. The documentary studies the intimate relationship between the artist and his subject matter, as well as the challenges he faces in capturing the essence of the tree and its surroundings. Lopez’ exploration of the intersection of art, nature, and time, becomes a mesmerizing visual meditation on the beauty of the natural world.
