Ans Mertens – Reel Real Double Time

From April 20 to 23 Het Bos in Antwerp hosts the exhibition Reel Real Double Time by visual artist Ans Mertens.

“Reel Real Double Time is the result of two summers of hanging and skating. Against a background of rumors about an imminent skate ban on the iconic theater square, I question the urban infrastructure while filming together with some street skaters. I understand infrastructure not only as the architecture and spatial arrangement of the city, but also as the temporal structures of urban life. Not only are benches, railings and concrete walls played with, but also the counters between time of use - work and school - and time of meaning - time that is free - are remembered. Together with the skaters, I seek out the field of tension between chronos and kairos while filming.” – Ans Mertens
