Out of the Shadows
À l'occasion du programme de films Out of the Shadows au festival Courtisane (20 - 24 octobre 2021), la publication Out of the Shadows vise à faire revivre le travail de cinq cinéastes dont les films sont encore méconnus et rarement montrés : Atteyat Al-Abnoudy, Selma Baccar, Assia Djebar, Jocelyne Saab et Heiny Srour. Les cinéastes ont des parcours différents et viennent de régions différentes. Toutes ont commencé à faire des films dans les années 1970, une époque de grande effervescence politique et culturelle. À contre-courant, elles ont tenté de faire entendre des voix et histoires qui menaçaient d'être noyées dans l'histoire officielle. Bien que chacune de ces cinéastes ait développé sa propre et audacieuse approche du cinéma, leur travail explore des thèmes communs de mémoire et d'identité, d'oppression et de libération, de violence et d'exclusion, ainsi que le rôle social et politique des femmes dans la société et l'histoire arabes. Cette publication en langue anglaise – composée, éditée et publiée par Sabzian et Courtisane avec le soutien de KASK & Conservatorium – rassemble une sélection de textes et d'entretiens “tout contre” les films du programme. La plupart des textes apparaissent ici pour la première fois en anglais et témoignent de la pratique singulière de ces femmes. Ils sont réunis ici, l'un face à l'autre, dans l'espoir de mettre en lumière leur œuvre riche et inspirante et d'en accroître la portée et l'appréciation.
