On the Bowery
Lionel Rogosin Retrospective
Rogosin made his debut with this film, influenced by both Italian Neorealism and Robert Flaherty: a sobering look at life in New York’s Lower East Side in the mid-1950s. The film is preceded by a screening of Reflections on Lionel Rogosin & The New American Cinema with Martin Scorsese and Michael Rogosin (Michael Ariel Rogosin, 2011), a testimony from Martin Scorsese highlighting the filmmaker’s importance in the development of the New American Cinema.
Followed by a conversation in French and English with the filmmaker’s son, Michael Ariel Rogosin, and film critic Patrick Leboutte (INSAS).
