Mes voisins

Mes voisins
Med Hondo, 1971, 35’

Mes voisins is a short documentary film made in 1971 by Med Hondo, using footage shot for his feature film Les Bicots-nègres, vos voisins. The film offers an unsparing portrait of the condition of immigrant workers in France and, more broadly, of the enduring postcolonial dynamics within French society. Filmed largely in workers’ hostels and working-class neighbourhoods, it gives a voice to those who are never heard: the neighbours, the anonymous figures, men who came from Africa to help rebuild post-war France, only to be pushed to the margins and confronted with racism, exploitation, and isolation.
