DAFilms × Sabzian: Thinking Through Images

We’re very pleased to announce a new collaboration with the international streaming platform DAFilms on a specially curated programme that connects their film catalogue with Sabzian’s archive of texts!

DAFilms (short for Doc Alliance Films) is a curated, international streaming platform founded in 2005 by a network of seven major European documentary festivals (including Ji.hlava, CPH:DOX, Doclisboa, DOK Leipzig, FIDMarseille, Millennium Docs Against Gravity, and Visions du Réel). It offers a rich repertoire of creative and socially relevant documentaries, experimental works, festival highlights, and restored classics – handpicked by curators and made available via flexible subscription or individual rentals.

The selection brings together films by Helke Misselwitz, Johan van der Keuken, Boris Lehman, Loredana Bianconi, Atteyat al-Abnoudy, Wang Bing, Alice Diop, Harun Farocki, Sergei Loznitsa, Trinh T. Minh-ha, and others.  Every film in this film selection is paired with a piece of writing from Sabzian’s archive: from long-form criticism to in-depth interviews and reflections by filmmakers themselves. These texts offer not just context, but companionship – a way of walking alongside the films and thinking with them, sentence by sentence, image by image. Cinephilia, like films themselves, is an unfinished conversation. This curated program is one attempt to keep the exchange going.
