Hannes Verhoustraete

Hannes Verhoustraete (1986) is a filmmaker, lecturer, and researcher based in Brussels. He graduated in 2013 from KASK School of Arts with the film 28 Rue Brichaut, which won the VAF Wildcard for Documentary. He completed a PhD in Audiovisual Arts at KASK School of Arts, focusing on the film essay as a form of historiography. Un pays plus beau qu’avant (2019) and Broken View (2023) were made in the context of this research and screened at several international festivals, where they received multiple awards. Verhoustraete is a founding member and contributor to the online film journal Sabzian. He teaches documentary film at KASK Film and currently conducts a research project there titled Montage as Method.
