From 30 April to 11 May, Bozar in Brussels focuses on the work of the South Korean filmmaker Hong Sang-soo. During these two weeks, nine of Hong's films will be shown, including some of his earliest works. The retrospective also includes talks by several guest speakers.
Walk Up is one of Hong Sangsoo's most complex films in terms of temporality and use of space. The film daydreams about what it would be like to live someone else's life or to live your own life differently. The story follows Byungsoo, a film director, who visits a building owned by an old friend established in the design field, accompanied by his daughter Jeongsu, an aspiring interior designer. The three of them chat and drink amicably until a business call pulls Byungsoo away. When he returns, it's the same place, but a different time...
The first of two screenings will be introduced by Dutch author, teacher and filmmaker Nina de Vroome, editor at Sabzian.
