International Dancefilmfestival Brussels

The International Dancefilmfestival Brussels focuses on the specific relationship between dance and film, and aims to be an international platform for choreographers, filmmakers and programmers. The festival has the ambition to promote a selection of dancefilms in Belgium and abroad. The festival is spread over several days in several different venues. The meeting point of the festival is Danscentrumjette.

For the historical program another theme is chosen each year. In previous editions the American (2012), Belgian (2013), French (2014), German (2015), Dutch (2016), British (2017), Italian (2018) dance films were on the program. For the historical part of the 8th edition a retrospective of the seven previous editions will be presented at CINEMATEK, including films by Maya Deren, Mary Wigman, Valeska Gert, Len Lye, Kenneth Anger, François Weyergans, Erik Pauwels and Wolfgang Kolb.

For the recent dance films a selection of the international recent, contemporary dance films and documentaries, submitted by filmmakers, choreographers and visual artists and made during the past two years is on the program.

The curators of the international dancefilmfestival Brussels are Stefanie Bodien and Wolfgang Kolb.
