State of Cinema 2026 / Screening Programme

Sabzian and Bozar are honoured to welcome French filmmaker Nicolas Philibert to Brussels for State of Cinema 2026, taking place on 30 November at Bozar. For its ninth edition, the annual event invites Philibert to reflect on what cinema means today, accompanied by a screening of Bill Douglas’s My Childhood (1972).

This year, the State of Cinema is accompanied by a series of screenings and conversations organised by Bozar, Sabzian and Cinema RITCS. The programme includes Philibert’s Être et avoir (2002), La moindre des choses (1997), Sur l’Adamant (2023) and La machine à écrire et autres sources de tracas (2024), with selected screenings followed by conversations with Philibert and psychoanalyst Linda De Zitter. Additionally, La ville Louvre (1990) will be screened twice at Bozar.

In the lead-up to the event, Sabzian will also present its third print publication, dedicated to Philibert and bringing together a selection of his writings, including several previously unpublished texts. The volume will be presented ahead of the screening of Philibert’s Être et avoir (2002) at Cinema RITCS. In December, Bozar will further celebrate Philibert’s selection with a rare complete screening of Bill Douglas’s acclaimed Trilogy.
