This film’s origins lie in another : the one that the director René Allio shot in Normandy in1975 based on a local crime: I, Pierre Rivière, Having Slaughtered My Mother, My Sister and My Brother… Nicolas Philibert, then a young assistant, had been tasked with recruiting them. A unique and powerful cinematic adventure, the memory of which would stay with him forever. In Back to Normandy, he goes back to see these men and women to film them in their present-day lives, grappling with the world.
