To Sang Fotostudio

According to Van der Keuken, “a bit like Tati,” To Sang Fotostudio captures a small section of Albert Cuypstraat as a village-like community. Here, some residents and shopkeepers are photographed by Mr. To Sang, the Chinese photographer who lives at its very heart. He speaks little Dutch but has developed his own (body) language to communicate with his models. Behind the shop windows of his (mostly immigrant) clientele, small stories unfold—tales of immigration, oppression, hard work, and happiness.
