BFI Southbank Hosts Complete Retrospective of Akerman’s Work
After the successful retrospective at CINEMATEK in Brussels, Chantal Akerman’s oeuvre moves to London for a complete retrospective in February and March at BFI Southbank. The British Film Institute will also be touring Britain with some of her most important works. More information can be found here.
Additionally, from 7 February onwards, BFI is re-releasing Jeanne Dielman, 23, quai du Commerce, 1080 Bruxelles. Coinciding with the re-release of Jeanne Dielman and the retrospective at Southbank, BFI is also releasing two Blu-ray box sets: Chantal Akerman Collection Volume 1 (1967–1978), coming out on 24 February, and Chantal Akerman Collection Volume 2 (1982–2015), due for release on 16 June, with many films available for the first time in any format in the UK. Lastly, Sight and Sound presents a new edition in their auteurs series dedicated to Chantal Akerman. The new publication revisits material from the Sight and Sound and Monthly Film Bulletin archive and also features new exclusive texts and images from the Fondation Chantal Akerman archive. You can already find an introductory text to Akerman’s work by Cristina Álvarez López and Adrian Martin on BFI’s website.
Sabzian has previously published an extensive trilingual collection on Akerman’s work, featuring texts by and on the filmmaker. You can find it here.
