John Berger
John Berger (1926-2017) was a British essayist, cultural thinker, novelist, poet and filmmaker. He is best known for his novel G., which won the 1972 Booker Prize, and for his influential book on art Ways of Seeing, based on the BBC television series of the same name. In the 1970s, Berger collaborated on three films with the Swiss director Alain Tanner. In 1962 he left Britain permanently for a small village in the French Alps.
