Laatste woorden – Mijn zusje Joke

Mijn zusje Joke is a personal portrait of Johan van der Keuken's sister, Joke, who passed away from cancer on August 8, 1997. Eight days before her death, the filmmaker and his wife, Noshka, had an intimate conversation with her, which he recorded using a digital video camera. A second, shorter conversation followed two days before her passing. The film presents these philosophical discussions about the meaning of life, vitality, and the sharing of experiences and insights, as well as conversations about their relationship – both in their childhood family and in the present. Around these moments, Van der Keuken also filmed elements of Joke's personal environment: her home, garden, daughters, and paintings.
