The remarkable transformation of the Western brass band in various non-Western cultures is highlighted in this film. Marching music, introduced during colonial times, takes on a completely different character within the indigenous musical tradition. Various band members are introduced, offering a glimpse into their daily lives. A significant aspect of this is the experience of religious rites at weddings and funerals, where music plays a major role.

On the occasion of the retrospective, Sabzian published an Issue featuring Van der Keuken’s writings, available in English, Dutch and French. A collection of texts on his work by various authors will be published in the coming weeks.
