The “collective film” Le Résistant emerged from a workshop with Johan van der Keuken in Annecy and is based on the testimony of Julien Helfgott, a Resistance figure in Haute-Savoie. Natte voeten in Hong Kong is the result of 20 minutes of filming on a rain-soaked sidewalk in Hong Kong. In Het masker, we see homeless individuals in a Parisian metro station, including 23-year-old Philippe, who dreams of owning a proper suit while the city commemorates the French Revolution.
Le Résistant (1983): DCP, French spoken, no subtitles
Natte voeten in Hong Kong (Johan van der Keuken, 1986): 16mm, no dialogue
Het masker (Johan van der Keuken, 1989): French and Dutch spoken, English subtitles
On the occasion of the retrospective, Sabzian published an Issue featuring Van der Keuken’s writings, available in English, Dutch and French. A collection of texts on his work by various authors will be published in the coming weeks.
