Johan van der Keuken Retrospective
16mm with French subtitles
A series of portraits in the light of the economic crisis. Joop Uchtman is unemployed in Den Helder. In Frankfurt am Main, Doris Schwert speaks about the professional ban imposed on her, preventing her from becoming a teacher due to her membership in the German Communist Party. We see the laborer Jan van Haagen in a metal workshop, where the clock ticks agonizingly slowly. Other portraits include the French economist and film publicist Claude Menard and the well-known Amsterdam tenant activist Ome Joop Beaux.
On the occasion of the retrospective, Sabzian published an Issue featuring Van der Keuken’s writings, available in English, Dutch and French. A collection of texts on his work by various authors will be published in the coming weeks.
