Over a span of 32 years, Johan van der Keuken created two films about the poet Lucebert. When Lucebert passed away in 1994, a third part followed, evoking his presence. In Lucebert, tijd en afscheid [Lucebert, Time and Farewell–, Van der Keuken brings these three films together into a new, unified work. The title On Animal Locomotion is derived from the work of Eadward Muybridge, a 19th-century photographer and pioneer of cinema, who developed a method to analyze the movement of humans and animals.
