37. Amsterdam Global Village [2]

With moped courier Khalid as our guide, we are introduced to “typical” women from the Jordaan neighborhood and Amsterdam residents from Chechnya, Bolivia, and Ghana. Johan van der Keuken dedicated the film to poet Bert Schierbeek, from whom he also borrowed the motto for his film: “I always thought life was 77 stories happening at the same time.” With this premise, Van der Keuken takes us on a journey through Amsterdam's multicultural society.

On the occasion of the retrospective, Sabzian published an Issue featuring Van der Keuken’s writings, available in English, Dutch and French. A collection of texts on his work by various authors will be published in the coming weeks.
