3. Amsterdam

In this short film programme of early work, we see Amsterdam and its inhabitants, such as ten-year-old Beppie, a mischievous girl next door portrayed in Beppie (1965). In Wat zijn mooie meisjes (1959), young women walking the streets of Amsterdam are filmed. Vier muren is a poetic indictment of the policies surrounding Amsterdam’s housing crisis. In Even stilte (1963), peace falls over the city during the commemoration of the dead.
